Multiple Exposure setup
Check whether your camera supports Multiple Exposure and enable it before starting. If unavailable, ask the organizer which alternatives are allowed.
Pro Tips
Align with the EVF overlay
If your camera supports it, preview the first frame as an EVF overlay while composing the second. Place the new subject in a clear area to avoid distracting overlaps.
Keep the blend to two frames
Stop after two frames for these tasks: one strong subject and one supporting layer. A simpler blend keeps the task’s idea readable when judged.

Tasks
Goals, scored challenges, and objectives for participants to complete
Practice AVERAGE mode: Sidewalk Ghost
Photograph a still sidewalk, then a walking person crossing the same view. Aim for a translucent figure over a clearly recognizable street scene.
Use in-camera Multiple Exposure, AVERAGE only, with two frames and the camera held nearly fixed.
Save one composite with a visible ghost; caption it “AVERAGE” and check the effect with a teammate.
AVERAGE automatically balances the two exposures, blending overlapping pixels into a soft ghost.
AVERAGE; aperture priority, f/5.6, Auto ISO; focus on the crossing point and lock focus for both frames.
Ask a teammate to walk through your second frame on a quiet stretch of public sidewalk.
Practice LIGHT mode: Shadow Pocket
Photograph a shaded doorway from the sidewalk, then a bright bag or sunlit edge. Place that bright detail inside the doorway’s dark pocket in the composite.
Use in-camera Multiple Exposure, LIGHT only, with two frames; align the bright subject within the first frame’s shadow.
Save one composite with a bright detail in the shadow; caption it “LIGHT” and check placement with a teammate.
LIGHT keeps the brightest pixel at each location, letting bright details replace darker areas.
LIGHT; aperture priority, f/5.6, Auto ISO, −1 EV; focus on each subject before its exposure.
Use deep shade beneath a public bench, then a teammate’s bright bag in sunlight.
Practice DARK mode: Street Etching
Photograph a bright sky or wall, then dark branches, railing or wires. Make the dark shapes read as a crisp etching across the bright surface.
Use in-camera Multiple Exposure, DARK only, with two frames; overlap dark lines with the first frame’s bright area.
Save one composite with distinct dark lines; caption it “DARK” and check their clarity with a teammate.
DARK keeps the darkest pixel at each location, allowing dark shapes to replace brighter areas.
DARK; aperture priority, f/8, Auto ISO, 0 EV; focus on the surface first, then the dark lines.
Pair bright pavement with a teammate’s silhouette photographed against a pale wall.
Practice ADDITIVE mode: Street Stack
Photograph two different street subjects, such as a bicycle and a shop window. Stack them so both remain recognizable without a washed-out veil.
Use in-camera Multiple Exposure, ADDITIVE only, with two different subjects; expose each frame at −1 to −2 EV.
Save a stack with both subjects readable; if milky, undo and darken. Caption it “ADDITIVE” and check with a teammate.
ADDITIVE sums pixel brightness like repeated film exposures, with no auto-balance; underexpose each frame to leave headroom.
ADDITIVE; aperture priority, f/5.6, Auto ISO, −1 to −2 EV per frame; refocus for each subject.
Stack a public bench with pavement markings, choosing midtones rather than large bright surfaces.
